Rolatube Bi-stable Reeled Composite Technology at CAMX 2026

Rolatube will be exhibiting at CAMX 2026 from the 21st to the 24th of September on stand D15 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, USA.

CAMX (The Composites and Advanced Materials Expo) is North America’s largest event for the composites and advanced materials industry, bringing together material specialists, design engineers, OEMs, and researchers to explore developments in composite technology, manufacturing processes, and end-use applications.

A New Class of Deployable Composite Structures

Where most composites are engineered to hold a single shape, Rolatube’s patented Bi-stable Reeled Composite (BRC) transforms between two completely stable formats: a compact rolled state for transport and storage, and a rigid, structural tube when deployed. That single change opens up applications that traditional composites cannot serve.

Technically, BRC sits within the Slit Tube Engineered Member (STEM) family, but with a critical difference. Conventional STEMs are not stable when rolled and behave like a wound spring, which limits how they can be handled and where they can be used. BRC is stable in both formats, deploys in a calm, controlled manner, and can be deployed thousands of times. Built from tuned layers of reinforced composite, typically glass-reinforced polypropylene, the material can be engineered to balance size, weight, strength, rolling behaviour, and cycle life for each application.

That capability has taken BRC into service across defence, emergency response, broadcast, industrial infrastructure, marine operations, and space, where Rolatube BRC booms are currently in orbit on CubeSat missions. Because the rolled state is low-energy rather than a wound spring, components such as RF antennas, electrical conductors, and lighting arrays can be integrated directly into the composite, a capability no other rollable composite can offer.

On the Stand

On stand D15, Rolatube will be showing a range of BRC demonstration products, chosen to illustrate the technology’s flexibility across finish, structure, and integrated functionality:

  • Coloured 2″ CAMO pole, showing surface colouration.
  • 4m Rolalight concept mast, showing embedded lighting.
  • Setolite-type rollable light array, showing internal application of embedded lighting.
  • CF/epoxy space boom with conductors, showing space technology with embedded conductors.
  • Printed Rolatube scale demo unit, showing surface printing.
  • Nightwing lightweight construct, showing protection sleeve applications.

Meet Rolatube at CAMX 2026

CAMX 2026 takes place from the 21st to the 24th of September at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. We will be on stand D15, ready to meet composite manufacturers, design engineers, and OEMs to discuss how Rolatube’s Bi-stable Reeled Composite technology can support new product applications.
