Safety Instructions

The system is rated to the load stated. The end user is responsible for ensuring the loads are securely fastened. Rolatube Technology does not accept liability or provide warranty for usage deviating from the enclosed instructions.

  1. Before deploying the mast please read all warnings below.
  2. Avoid contact with heavy and sharp objects, in storage do not stack anything on top of Rolatubes.
  3. Do not use the mast if there is visible damage.
  4. The end user must assess the suitability of the pegs provided for the intended deployment environment, and replace with more suitable products if necessary.
  5. Rolatube mast systems are rated for wind speeds of up to 100kph (62mph). The maximum wind rating is based on the bare mast correctly deployed and guyed. The end user or system integrator is responsible for ensuring the system is safe with the top load mounted.
Warnings
  1. Ensure the deployment site is clear of any cables or equipment that represents an electric shock hazard.
  2. Do not deploy near power lines, in thunderstorms or winds exceeding 100kph (62mph).
  3. Do not exceed the rated top load of the mast.
  4. Ensure any top load is securely fastened.
  5. Do not allow the mast to bend.
  6. Ensure the deployment site is clear of any underground hazards before using pegs.
  7. Ensure guy ropes and pegs are secure for duration of deployment.
  8. Consideration must be given to the location of any cable from the top load to avoid trip hazards.
  9. Consideration must be given when deploying in proximity to an aircraft landing site for aircraft movement.
  10. Rolatube masts are only designed to function in the vertical axis.
  11. Deploy the mast with the slot facing away from any prevailing wind.
Mast Deployment (4 Person)
Person 1 — At base of mast: Deployment lead, responsible for deploying mast from the roll.
Persons 2, 3 & 4 — At guy pegs: Maintaining tension during deployment to keep mast vertical.
Phase 1 — Mast Deployment
1

Position Base Cap

Person 1: Place the base cap where the mast is to be deployed, with one peg hole facing into the wind. Secure with the red hard ground pegs.

2

Pace Out Guy Ropes

Persons 2, 3 & 4: Using the pegs in the base cap for guidance, pace out the position of the various guy ropes and insert pegs into the ground.

3

Connect Guy Ropes

Persons 2, 3 & 4: Unwind the mast guy ropes, connect to the pegs and lay the snap hooks next to the top cap, ready for connection as the mast is deployed. Wait at the 3 outer pegs.

4

Attach Top Cap, Guy Ropes & Hoist Rope

Person 1: Place mast between feet and attach the top cap with the flat edge aligned with the open slot in the mast, which is facing away from the wind. Connect the mast guy ropes and feed the antenna hoist rope through the clip on the top cap. Secure the hoist rope to prevent it being raised with the mast. Continue to unroll the mast vertically whilst Persons 2, 3 & 4 maintain light tension on the guy ropes to keep the mast vertical.

5

Slide into Base Cap

Person 1: When the mast is fully unrolled, slide it carefully into the base cap, whilst keeping it vertical and ensuring the slot is still facing away from the wind. Persons 2, 3 & 4: Maintain light tension on the mast guy ropes.

6

Secure Guy Ropes

Persons 2, 3 & 4: Tighten and secure the mast guy ropes. Do not overtighten.

Antenna Deployment
Phase 2 — HF Antenna Assembly & Raising
7

Connect Balun to Resistor Tube

Connect the balun to the resistor tube using the snap hook.

8

Connect Antenna Dipoles

Unroll the antenna dipoles. Connect the antenna dipoles to the resistor tube and balun. Ensure all four strain relief snap hooks are correctly positioned.

9

Connect Hoist Rope & Radio Cable

Connect the hoist rope to the top of the resistor tube using the snap hook. Connect the radio cable to the balun and ensure its strain relief cable is attached to the snap hook on the tip of the balun.

10

Raise Antenna

Raise the antenna assembly using the hoist rope to the desired height. Secure the hoist rope to the base cap or ground using a peg.

11

Secure Dipoles

Use the pegs to secure the dipoles in position. If required, attach the extension guy ropes to the dipoles and peg and tension in the usual way.

RECOVERY: Recovery is a logical reverse procedure of deployment. Lower the Antenna using the hoist rope. Person 1 lifts the mast from the base cap while Persons 2, 3 & 4 provide support with the guy ropes. Person 1 rolls the bottom edge to enable the mast to be rolled down whilst keeping it vertical. When the top cap and top load can be reached, Person 1 removes them whilst Persons 2, 3 & 4 continue to support the mast with the guy ropes. DO NOT allow the mast to fall to the ground or damage to mast and top load may occur.
